Mise en place

we are what we habitually do. excellence (and happiness) are therefore a habit

Mise en Place is located in Roberts Creek on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia.

We are on 10 acres of forested land with ocean views and natural creeks and game trails running throughout. There is a house, a 2,500 square foot barn, an 80 x 200 riding arena with a 6,400 square foot cover, a pottery studio, a workshop and an office.

It is an expression of the artistic and practical spirits of Sarah Bradley, the late Ian Thomas and their son Bradley Thomas.

Mise en place (French pronunciation: [mi zã  ‘plas]) is a French phrase which means "putting in place", as in set up. It is used in professional kitchens to refer to organizing and arranging the ingredients (e.g., cuts of meat, relishes, sauces, par-cooked items, spices, freshly chopped vegetables, and other components) that a cook will require for the menu items that are expected to be prepared during a shift. The practice is also effective in home kitchens.

We have extended this concept to our lives and environment. Mise en place is as much a description and a goal for ourselves as we strive to order parts of our lives in order to create chaos in other aspects.
